MUN Yearly Reflection

What was the most important thing you learned in Model UN and how can MUN be applied to your everyday life?
The most important thing i learned in MUN is to be a good public speaker. In 8th grade I had speech class and that was my first time experiencing the obstacles of speaking in front of people and of effectively getting your ideas across. Then when i was a sophomore i got into MUN and although i felt like i9 was a good public speaker, i didn't have experience speaking in front of really large crowds. As fate would have it the first committee i got was General Assembly (the biggest committee) and i was going to end up talking to and debating with a lot of people. Throughout the year MUN helped me develop my skills and it allowed me to not be so redundant when i talked, it helped me organize my ideas intospeeches that weren't too long yet they were long enough to get my ideas across. That year i won best position paper and i spoke in front of the assembly of about 100 people, it was an awesome experience and i feel it was a stepping stone in my public speaking development. Public speaking can be applied to my everyday life in the sense that in this contemporary world we have to always present our ideas better than the person next to us, we are competing for jobs on a global scale and the people who will be able to rise and speak the loudest and clearest are the people ho will get the important jobs. That is how learning to be a good public speaker in MUN will help me in everyday life.
